ik oa(n)kaar sathigur prasaadh ||
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
raag aasaa mehalaa 1 choupadhae ghar 2 ||
Raag Aasaa, First Mehla, Chaupaday, Second House:
sun vaddaa aakhai sabh koee ||
Hearing, everyone calls You Great,
kaevadd vaddaa ddeet(h)aa hoee ||
but only one who has seen You, knows just how Great You are.
keemath paae n kehiaa jaae ||
No one can measure Your Worth, or describe You.
kehanai vaalae thaerae rehae samaae ||1||
Those who describe You, remain absorbed in You. ||1||
vaddae maerae saahibaa gehir ga(n)bheeraa gunee geheeraa ||
O my Great Lord and Master of Unfathomable Depth, You are the Ocean of Excellence.
koee n jaanai thaeraa kaethaa kaevadd cheeraa ||1|| rehaao ||
No one knows the greatness of Your expanse. ||1||Pause||
sabh surathee mil surath kamaaee ||
All the contemplators met together and practiced contemplation;
sabh keemath mil keemath paaee ||
all the appraisers met together and tried to appraise You.
giaanee dhhiaanee gur gur haaee ||
The theologians, the meditators and the teachers of teachers
kehan n jaaee thaeree thil vaddiaaee ||2||
could not express even an iota of Your Greatness. ||2||
sabh sath sabh thap sabh cha(n)giaaeeaa ||
All Truth, all austerities, all goodness,
sidhhaa purakhaa keeaa vaddiaaeeaaa(n) ||
and the greatness of the Siddhas, the beings of perfect spiritual powers
thudhh vin sidhhee kinai n paaeeaa ||
without You, none has attained such spiritual powers.
karam milai naahee t(h)aak rehaaeeaa ||3||
They are obtained by Your Grace; their flow cannot be blocked. ||3||
aakhan vaalaa kiaa baechaaraa ||
What can the helpless speaker do?
sifathee bharae thaerae bha(n)ddaaraa ||
Your bounties are overflowing with Your Praises.
jis thoo(n) dhaehi thisai kiaa chaaraa ||
And the one, unto whom You give - why should he think of any other?
naanak sach savaaranehaaraa ||4||1||
O Nanak, the True Lord is the Embellisher. ||4||1||
